Held on 9 – 10 September 2025 in Canberra, the Safe Work Australia Research Summit brought together WHS and worker’s compensation experts amongst other things, to inform national policy. Our Andrea Madeley, pictured here in a panel session humbly told us “It’s only little … but in light of the number of highly educated, clever minds that attended this summit… a small voice (mine) asked the room to please not lose sight of the high water mark of unsafe work – the injustices that surround fatalities – there having been a lack of focus at this summit on workplace deaths, I made some noise about that and the outdated compensation that had existed for 100+ years.”
And she says: “Buckle Up! I recently met with the AGD, the CEO of ReturnToWork SA and some young families of deceased workers on the subject of the injustices that flow from the Return to Work Act 2014 specifically – when we were able to explain how the youngest of deceased workers and their young families are afforded the least consideration by the current legislation. As a result, serious consideration is being given to the amendments that we may recommend before next year’s next amendment Bill”.
Buckle up indeed.
